Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Summary The Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Enterprise Engineering Division is responsible for collaborating with product management, commercial, design, and manufacturing teams to develop and maintain a "system" approach to optimizing and establishing configurations within IEM's low voltage power products. This role involves extensive 3D modeling and 2D drafting, creating and maintaining BOMs, coordination with internal stakeholders, and ensuring that configurations meet project specifications and industry standards. The Senior Engineer plays a critical role in mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive successful project delivery. Key Responsibilities Mentoring and providing guidance to junior engineers and designers, fostering skill development within the team. Optimizing and configuring the custom designs of mechanical solutions to meet client-specific requirements, focusing on manufacturability and compliance with industry and internal standards. Performing advanced 3D modeling and creating detailed 2D drawings, including client coordination drawings and fabrication documentation. Collaborating with clients, project managers, and internal teams to ensure designs are aligned with project goals, customer specifications, and timelines. Reviewing designs to maintain accuracy, quality, and compliance with industry guidelines, and UL 891/1558. Incorporating feedback provided during manufacturing and installation phases to improve product features and ensure seamless execution. Conducting peer reviews of designs to ensure high-quality deliverables and compliance with engineering standards. Assisting in identifying and addressing project challenges, ensuring alignment with timelines and client expectations. Essential Functions Develop system-level configuration strategies and modules that balance technical requirements, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness. Translate product requirements into engineering system specifications and technical documentation Support prototyping, testing, validation, and product launches of system configurations Prepare high-quality documentation, including fabrication-level drawings and assembly instructions. Design and refine mechanical components and assemblies Identify and address discrepancies in BOMs promptly to minimize delays and errors during production. Analyze field and quality data to drive product improvements Drive workflow templating and automation initiatives to increase project throughput and reduce errors. Assist in training junior team members in best practices for 3D SolidWorks modeling, 2D AutoCAD drafting, and compliance with design standards. Lead peer reviews to improve the team's technical output. Partner with the Lead Engineer, manufacturing engineers, and fabrication teams to refine designs for manufacturability. Facilitate communication and collaboration across multiple engineering and manufacturing sites to align expectations and processes. Qualifications Experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers preferred. Experience working in a configure-to-order engineering environment with a systems approach strongly preferred. Experience working in a design-to-order or custom engineering environment is an asset. Experience in manufacturing and other related cross functional engagement is an asset. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment Familiarity with low or medium voltage switchgear, utility systems, or the power industry is preferred. Proficiency in sheet metal design, including manufacturability and cost optimization. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Pro E; Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is a plus. Knowledge of UL891/1558 design guidelines and NFPA70E are desirable. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across teams. Education & Experience BSME or equivalent required, MSME is preferred 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in CTO or system engineering. Compensation The salary range for this role is $115,200-$174,720 per year, based on location, experience, and qualifications. What You Will Do: GFT is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Process Engineer to join our Water team! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at one of our many offices. What you’ll be challenged to do: In this role you will lead and support design of wastewater treatment through evaluation of existing processes and facilities; treatment assessments; design of improvements, expansions, and new facilities; permitting; and construction administration. Responsibilities will include conducting site visits, completing treatment studies and developing treatment process recommendations, preparing reports and design documents, and supporting permitting efforts. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: System Design:Lead and support the planning and process evaluation of wastewater processes, including biological nutrient removal, sludge handling, and filtration processes. Process Optimization:Conduct site visits and investigations; analyze influent wastewater characteristics, facility design, and operating data to assess treatment performance; and provide recommendations for treatment and process improvements. Studies and Evaluation:Plan and execute bench, pilot, and full-scale studies to meet project goals; assess test results and facility operating data to develop process recommendations; and preparation of required reports. Technical:Function as a technical specialist in the areas of conventional and advanced wastewater treatment. Use processes such as physical/chemical primary treatment, conventional activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, fixed-film processes, membrane bio-reactors (MBR), sidestream treatment, tertiary filtration, auxiliary wet-weather treatment, and disinfection Education | Experience: What you will bring to our firm: BS in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering (MS is preferred) Professional Engineer Licensed required (PE) or the ability to obtain in 6-12 months 4+ years of experience required in wastewater treatment discipline, particularly as a wastewater engineer involved with planning and/or process evaluation of wastewater treatment facilities Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. EPC project experience preferred; design and construction of wastewater treatment facilities, including three or more years leading process design of wastewater projects with full responsibility for the budget, schedule, contractual obligations, client service, and quality standards preferred. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in preliminary treatment, primary treatment, biological treatment (including BNR), disinfection, hydraulics, and solids processing and handling preferred. Successful track record leading wastewater process and plant facilities projects background and the willingness to take on new challenges. What we prefer: Experience with biological modeling software such as BioWin, GPS-X, and Sumo. Experience working directly with Environmental Regulators (i,e. NJDEP, PADEP, MDE, NYDOH etc). Compensation: The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $180,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
