Job Summary and Qualifications The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for providing general clinical and pharmacy services. This includes supervision of technical staff. Staff pharmacists fill orders for drugs, monitor patient drug therapies and provide drug information. Staff pharmacists supervise and direct supportive personnel. In the absence of the pharmacy manager, a staff pharmacist may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the pharmacy manager. Pharmacists identify opportunities and participate in performance improvement activities as directed. Work closely with on-site Pathologists in determining grossing priorities. Take instruction from on-site Pathologists with respect to grossing technique and quality assessment. Confer with and share with other HCA pathologist assistant’s relevant information that would facilitate productivity and expand knowledge base. Triage specimen received from surgery; dictate gross findings on selected specimen using appropriate terminology; refer tissue sections for microscopic review by Pathologist or Resident. Select and identify tissue for microscopic study; determine proper fixative solutions in which tissue will be maintained. Perform specialized procedures such as frozen sections and decalcification; maintain and coordinate specimen and records for specialized procedures using appropriate protocols; submit request for special histological procedures and special stains when appropriate. Maintain records of surgical pathology specimen dissections and dictation; assist in the compilation of reports for surgical pathology; label and store gross tissue specimen. Photograph specimen samples as appropriate for use in instruction and documentation. Perform photo microscopy on cases considered for interdepartmental conferences or for teaching purposes; maintain complete and accurate records of all gross and microscopic photographs. Reports to: Director of Nursing OVERVIEW: Assist the Director of Nursing and Associate Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department. Maintains quality clinical care for residents/patients in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the Facility. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Supervises the clinical care planning and delivery processes to ensure the coordination of quality patient care. Reviews and updates the care plan accordingly • Assesses residents/clients upon admission and periodically as conditions change • Performs rounds to evaluate patient condition • Provides or assists with the delivery of direct patient care when indicated, including activities of daily living, meal assistance, medication and treatment administration, and leisure activities when indicated • Obtains and implements Physician Orders, checking for accuracy and completeness • Communicates between shifts regarding changes in resident/patient conditions • Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients/residents, staff and visitors • Provides clinical assessment to MD/NPs on call for quality outcomes delivered to patients • Plans, implements and evaluates the clinical competencies and on-going educational/orientation needs of the staff. • Participate in Facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing Services • Participate in developing, implementing, and periodically updating the resident’s written discharge plan • Ensure that a sufficient number of nursing staff is available for each shift to ensure that quality care is maintained • Make daily rounds of the Nursing Services Department to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Report findings to the Director of Nursing Services • Review complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel.
