Overview: UF Health Jacksonville At UF Health Jacksonville, our ICU nurses are at the forefront of providing life-saving care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients. As part of an academic health system and Level I Trauma Center, you'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team dedicated to excellence in patient care, innovation, education, and research. Position Overview Under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager, the ICU Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients. The RN utilizes advanced assessment, clinical judgment, and critical care skills to manage complex patient needs while promoting exceptional outcomes and patient safety. The Registered Nurse is expected to perform all staff nurse responsibilities and may serve as Charge Nurse when assigned. Key Responsibilities Deliver direct patient care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients in a high-acuity intensive care environment. Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes. Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, utilizing critical thinking and evidence-based interventions. Administer medications, blood products, and specialized therapies in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols. Operate and monitor advanced critical care equipment and technologies. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care. Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, procedures, and recovery expectations. Promote a culture of safety, quality, and compassionate care. Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities. Serve as Charge Nurse and provide leadership support when assigned. Patient Population Adolescent (13–17 years) Adult (18–64 years) Geriatric (65+ years) Qualifications: Education Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing required. New hires effective June 14, 2017, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. BSN preferred. Licensure & Certifications Current Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association: Required within six (6) months of hire or transfer for SICU. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association: Required within six (6) months of hire or transfer for SICU. Experience Required One (1) to two (2) years of Critical Care/ICU Registered Nurse experience; or Successful completion of the UF Health Jacksonville Critical Care Fellowship Program. Preferred Two (2) or more years of Critical Care/ICU Registered Nurse experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrates knowledge of the Florida Nurse Practice Act and professional nursing standards. Ability to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care in a fast-paced critical care setting. Proficiency with critical care monitoring systems, equipment, and technology.
