Plasterer/Drywall Finisher

Job Summary Skilled work on the journeyman level in the alteration, maintenance and repair of plastered surfaces, finish work necessary in drywall surface preparation and repair, and ceramic or porcelain tile installation and repair. This entry level class lies below that of Carpenter Foreperson or Painter Foreperson or Glazier/Plasterer Foreperson, based on organizational needs. Essential Functions Layouts work from sketches and drawings. Prepares surfaces for plastering, painting, finishing, and installation of ceramic or porcelain tile; sands seams, joints, and rough spots; mixes and spreads sealing compounds over joints between boards; tapes over joints and embeds tape in compound. Replaces broken metal or wooden laths; chips out broken plaster, concrete, or tile. Mixes and applies plaster coating and/or cement material to walls and ceilings using trowel, float, brush or spray equipment and smoothes plastered surfaces to desired finish. Seals and fills joints, nail indentations, holes and cracks with joint compound using trowel and broad knife. Apply successive coats of compound and smooth cementing material over tape, using trowel or floating machinery to blend with wall surfaces. Repairs or installs drywall which includes measuring, cutting and fitting drywall sheets on walls and ceilings. Cuts and installs metal corner beads to protect exterior corners. Performs masonry work such as repairing broken and worn out ceramic or porcelain tile floors, cement finishing, concrete repairing and brick and concrete block laying. Directs lower level employees in applicable job related activities such as mixing & application of surfacing material/mortar/drywall compound and erecting scaffolding, when needed Performs other duties as assigned. Probation: Six (6) months Qualifications Open Requirements: Four (4) years of experience in plaster and/or drywall and/or ceramic or porcelain tile work.
