Manufacturing Shift Operations Leader

Your Job Georgia-Pacific is seeking qualified professionals for the Manufacturing Shift Operations Leader to support our retail tissue manufacturing area at our Palatka, FL facility. Located just south of Jacksonville and west of St. Augustine, FL, the Palatka mill employs about 950 people has four tissue paper machines as well as several converting lines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Angel Soft®, Quilted Northern®, Brawny®, and Sparkle®. The Manufacturing Shift Operations Leader will work in our Tissue Paper Machine (TPM) Department, reporting to the Performance Leader. The Manufacturing Shift Operations Leader will be positioned in a specific department and will directly supervise approximately 15 - 30 team members. This position will partner with Department Operations Team to create the greatest long-term value for Georgia-Pacific. Shift to be determined as this role works a 12-hour rotating Dupont schedule. Our Team The Palatka mill and its products are a critical part of GP's Consumer Products portfolio, including high-profile Angel Soft®, Quilted Northern®, Brawny®, and Sparkle® brands. GP has invested heavily at Palatka in recent years to deliver competitive tissue and towel products including a new towel paper machine. The mill also features two Kraft paper machines and recent investments in a state-of-the-art Daily Operations Center (DOC) - a singular control hub for our asset monitoring. With more than 950 team members, the mill is highly strategic operation for GP and a foundational part of the local community and economy. Located 45 minutes west of the beautiful beaches of St. Augustine, the mill is nestled in outskirts of the growing city of Palatka. Jacksonville, Daytona Beach and Gainesville are approximately one hour away, and Orlando is only two hours! In an area ideal for many different people, interests, and lifestyles, the Palatka mill is a rare find! What You Will Do Lead, mentor, supervise, coach, and develop hourly associates within the assigned department utilizing the Principle Based Management Guiding Principles and Operational Excellence tools to improve capability and performance. Lead and foster an environment that develops principled business owners in an Ownership Based Work system (OBWS) who can identify learning/development solutions and optimize equipment. Lead development and implementation of Performance, Skills, and Qualifications capability. Address performance gaps for Master Techs and Technicians and measure performance across the work platform. Handle administrative functions to include payroll, time keeping, attendance, performance evaluations and other required administrative human resource functions. Ensure that individual roles, responsibilities, and expectations (RR&E's) are aligned with mill and organizational goals to assure maximizing real long-term value for the company. Regularly execute Leader Standard Work to inspect what is expected of the team. Hold team and individuals accountable for operating strategies and results. Develop processes and systems which promote the transferring of knowledge to all team members. Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and other salaried leaders within the department to assure master tech/technician performance gaps are identified and addressed. Serve as incident command for conducting critical communications to all necessary resources when required. WATER Controls treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use. Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant. Dumps specified amounts of chemicals, such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water. Starts agitator to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank. Turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities. Pumps purified water into water mains. Monitors panelboard and adjusts controls to regulator flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution of water. Cleans tanks and filter beds, using backwashing (reverse flow of water.) Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand- and power tools. Tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities, using colorimeter, turbidimeter, and conductivity meter. Records data, such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure. May operate potable water- purification plant to supply drinking water. May purify wastewater from plant preparatory to pumping water into rivers and streams or city mains. Performs other duties as assigned. WASTEWATER Operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage: Monitors control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, and tests results to determine load requirements. Starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, setline, aeration, and sludge digestion processes. Maintains log of operations and records meter and gas readings. Gives directions to wastewater treatment plant attendants and sewage disposal workers in performing routine operations and maintenance. May collect sewage samples using dipper or bottle and conducts laboratory test, using testing equipment such as colorimeter. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS High School education or equivalent. Must possess Wastewater Operator Must possess or obtain and maintain Georgia Class III Water Operator license license no later than December 2026, to include successful completion of the Drinking Water Treatment Class 3 Course no later than June 2026. Must provide verifiable evidence of a minimum of 12 months experience in the maintenance mechanic field. Must possess the tools of their trade. Must possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and wear hard-toed safety shoes which meet ASTM F2413- 05 standards Successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must continually meet requirements for access to all areas of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance. JOB PURPOSE: The Quality Team Lead is responsible for coordinating and supporting the daily activities of the Quality Inspection team to ensure that all products meet established quality standards and customer requirements. JOB PURPOSE: The primary objective of this position is ensuring the conformance of products, materials, and operating processes to established requirements and data integrity. This position includes a responsibility to supervise Quality personnel. STRUCTURE The Quality Supervisor reports to the facility Quality Manager. The Quality Supervisor has up to 15 direct reports consisting of Quality Assurance Technicians and Quality Control Inspectors. The Quality Supervisor will lead the local Quality team, being the point of contact for local facility operations including Production, Repairs, and Warehousing. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Key Result Areas Quality Management System Collect, analyse and communicate quality data as input to support Quality Management Reviews. Control and maintain quality documentation and records as defined by the quality system including analyzing robustness of quality records. Preparing and implementing quality assurance policies and procedures. Creating training materials and operating manuals. Production Quality Assurance/Control Leads facility Quality Assurance/Repairs teams ensuring daily tasks are completed and long-term goals are on track. Leads the facility Quality Control Inspectors and ensures the module are meeting production goals and throughput. Ensuring Quality Control Plans (i.e. inspection plans) and non-conformance actions such as production hold, stop ship or recalls are appropriate, completed and documented. Leads improvement of the business and production processes, identifying and resolving workflow and quality issues. Implementing continuous improvement by addressing and discussing issues and solutions with Stakeholders and Superiors. Regulations, Standards and Approvals Ensure Quality teams are conducting Product, Material, RTV receiving processes in a timely manner to meet business needs Liaises with third party Inspectors/QA Representatives during inspections. Reconciles any problems or concerns and/or initiates corrective actions. Supplier Quality Liaise with Purchasing department, and Suppliers regarding non-conformances found during incoming inspections or use of material in production. Cooperate with Corporate Quality and Supply Chain departments to administer incoming quality control activities for outsourced products/purchased assemblies. Non-Conformance and Corrective Action Manage Issue Management program - including Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) Reports - ensuring investigation, root cause analysis, and actions have been identified and documented, are on track, and completed. Work directly with Manufacturing operations to resolve issues and prevent their reoccurrence. Calibration Maintains and controls inspection and testing equipment as per the quality manual/procedures. Ensures measuring equipment at Mustang is calibrated/verified at specified intervals, or prior to use, against measurement standards traceable to international or national measurement standards. Quality Records Analyse quality data to determine process conformance and failure modes, to use this data to drive action for quality improvement. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE High school diploma/GED required. Degree preferred. Professional certification in Quality Assurance is a plus. 5+ years in Quality Assurance, Quality Control or a similar field. Canadian Controlled Goods and ITARs eligibility. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Good command of the English language, written and verbal. Burnaby facility, proficiency in Mandarin/Cantonese considered an asset. Jacksonville facility, proficiency in Spanish considered an asset.
