Job Description: Responsible for the overall management and coordination of clinical research activities within UF CARES. Provides operational leadership and oversight for HIV-related and non-HIV-related clinical research studies, including treatment, observational, and other research protocols. Works closely with the Principal Investigator, research staff, sponsors, regulatory agencies, departmental leadership, and University offices to ensure effective research operations and compliance with institutional, sponsor, federal, and regulatory requirements. Manages and supervises Clinical Research Coordinators and other assigned research staff, including workload assignment, training, performance management, and staff development. Oversees research program operations, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, study implementation, budgets, sponsor billing and financial activity. Provides guidance to investigators and staff regarding research policies, protocols, operational requirements, and appropriate use of program resources. Research Program Management and Operations – Plans, directs and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the UF CARES clinical research program. Manages the portfolio of active and developing research studies and establishes priorities, workflows and processes to support program goals. Coordinates study start-up, implementation, ongoing operations and closeout. Works with the PI and research team to identify operational needs, resolve barriers and ensure appropriate allocation of staff and other resources. Personnel Management and Staff Development – Provides direct supervision and leadership to Clinical Research Coordinators and other assigned research personnel. Assigns and monitors workload; establishes expectations; evaluates performance; provides coaching and feedback; addresses performance or operational concerns; and supports recruitment, onboarding, training, cross-training and professional development. Promotes accountability, teamwork and consistent research practices across the program. Regulatory, Compliance and Quality Oversight – Oversees compliance with IRB, FDA, NIH, sponsor, University and other applicable research requirements. Ensures regulatory files, informed consent processes, protocol documentation, adverse event reporting, deviations and other required documentation are completed accurately and timely. Develops and monitors quality assurance processes and works with staff and investigators to address findings and implement corrective actions. Financial and Administrative Management – Provides oversight of clinical research budgets and financial activities, including study budget review, sponsor billing, invoice reconciliation, research visit billing and appropriate use of grant and research funds. Works collaboratively with departmental finance, contracts and grants, sponsors and investigators to monitor financial performance, identify discrepancies and support appropriate stewardship of research resources. Study and Sponsor/PI Coordination – Serves as a primary operational liaison among the PI, research staff, sponsors, protocol teams, IRB, research pharmacy, departmental administration and other internal and external partners. Advises the PI regarding research operations, study feasibility, resource requirements and implementation. Coordinates responses to sponsor and regulatory requests and supports timely resolution of study issues. Program Development and Process Improvement – Assists the PI and departmental leadership with growth and development of the clinical research program, including evaluation of new study opportunities, assessment of staffing and resource needs, development and implementation of procedures, and continuous improvement of research operations. Develops or recommends changes to workflows, policies and procedures as appropriate. Clinical Research Support – Maintains sufficient knowledge of active studies to provide guidance, coverage and direct study support when needed. May assist with participant recruitment, informed consent, data collection, specimen processing, study visits or other protocol activities based upon operational needs. Expected Salary: $82,000-$85,000 Required Qualifications: Masters degree in appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelors degree in appropriate areas of specialization and two years of experience. This knowledge includes the values, policies, and procedures of the Community Hospice Pharmacy and related clinical practice settings. • Follows established departmental rules, procedures, policies, quality-improving objectives, environmental, safety or infection controlling standards. • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and understanding of the basic pharmacy duties and responsibilities which may include: 1. Entering orders into computerized patient profile for pharmacist verification. 2. Maintaining patient demographic and medication profiles in computer systems. 3. Providing drug information, such as available dosage forms and strengths, costs, package sizes to patients, nurses and physicians. 4. Keeping files, records and communication organized. 5. Answering telephone calls on the pharmacist line within three (3) rings. 6. Repackaging, labeling, handling and storing pharmaceuticals. 7. Packaging medication order for delivery. 8. Identifying and preventing medication errors. • Maintains a working knowledge of all aspects of pharmacy services identified below: 11. This includes the practice of aseptic technique, proper procedures for preparing all types of Parenteral admixtures, preparation of the label and any control records, the proper technique for visual inspection of Parenteral solutions and the documentation of quality control. • Monitors drug therapy to evaluate appropriateness of use, drug, dosage form, regimen, route, therapeutic duplication and/or substitution, and drug interactions. • Counsels patients on over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription medications. • Reviews prescriptions for appropriateness and for possible therapeutic problems, contraindications, interactions and allergies; discusses prescription clarifications with prescribers. • Provides drug information to healthcare professionals and patients upon request or when determined necessary for the safe administration of the medication. • Checks accuracy of prescriptions filled by technicians, including sterile admixtures. • Ensures and demonstrates proper technique and accurate preparation of all pharmaceutical products, including oral, topical and sterile admixtures. • Facilitates transfer planning and smooth transition to alternate site of care. • Identifies and acts upon cost avoidance in drug therapy by promoting cost effective drugs and by reducing waste. • Demonstrates the ability to work independently with regard to the functions and tasks for the operation of the pharmacy. • Participates in the training and/or orientation of new pharmacy employees. • Interacts effectively with other members of the health care team on a regular basis. • Facilitates the safe and efficient transport of medications, drug-delivery devices and supplies from the pharmacy to inpatient facilities and patients. • Operates technology (computers, EyeCon, Smart Cabinet) in accordance to policy, procedures and manufacturing instructions. • Performs the essential functions related to opening and closing the pharmacy. • Uses appropriate telephone communication skills, and effectively communicates with patients, nurses, physicians and other co-workers. • Performs monthly consultant pharmacist responsibilities including review of inpatient charts and physical inspection of the facility modified Class II B pharmacy. • Performs drug management review for the comprehensive patient assessment and collaborates for ongoing drug utilization reviews with the patient’s interdisciplinary group. • Performs other tasks as assigned.     Position Summary: Oversees and provides primary care services to clients at an identified higher risk for rehospitalization by utilizing specific patient and family evidence-based interventions found in research validated care transition models. Leads a cohesive team in delivering at home clinical support and guidance to avoid adverse events. Collaborates continuously with other team members including medical staff to ensure care coordination and timely interventions based on assessed changes in status. Job Responsibilities: Practices at the APRN level to ensure delivery of care coordination, including obtaining new medical orders that support clinical and social services according to the individualized patient plan of care Utilizes the Coleman Care Transitions model’s four (4) pillars to guide practice, prioritize care delivery, and facilitate self-care with evidence-based interventions. Provides medication reconciliation and medication adherence teaching to identified clients. Conducts in-home visits as clinically necessary Works in tandem with the provider who is directing the plan of care for the patient Demonstrates the ability to establish quick trust and therapeutic rapport with patients and families to provide effective patient education and influence patient and family self-management of disease processes.
