Position: Powerhouse Superintendent Job Code: MOPOM4 + Mgr II, Mfg Ops Location: Jacksonville, FL The Opportunity: The Powerhouse Superintendent at the Seminole paper mill in Jacksonville, FL directs the implementation of the Operating Plan and identifies those areas which may need improvement or further development. Assures that plant operating conditions are always kept within optimum limits. This person will be responsible for a total life cycle strategy for generation assets which allows the development of investment and maintenance plans and the optimization of system configuration and operation. This position will report to Operations Manager and function as part of the Mill Leadership Team. Responsibilities Ownership of the following: 3 Natural gas-fired package boilers and associated equipment Electrical generation and electrical distribution system Environmental compliance of the powerhouse and wastewater treatment system Operational ownership of the wastewater treatment system Mill water supply and potable water systems Mill compressed air systems and associated dryers Boiler feedwater treatment plant consisting of 2 RO systems, 2 mixed beds, and associated chemical and water storage tanks. Ensure continuous improvement, safety and environmental stewardship is practiced by mill staff, vendors, contactors and visitors. Serve as the key communications link with mill operations management and other key stakeholders such as JEA utilities. Ensuring that the overall asset strategy process is developed and successfully executed. Ensuring that all aspects of maintenance plans, life cycle plans, and plant development plans are appropriately integrated into the asset plan Preparing the life-cycle strategy for generation assets and presenting the asset plan to all key constituencies Providing technical inspections and consultations regarding asset condition, issues and strategy Translating approved policies and business risk profiles into design and maintenance standards that can be applied by planning and operations Leading, facilitating and providing support for root cause analysis activities; reviewing results and developing a course of action. Monitor and optimize power, air, electrical, wastewater, and water plant performance with emphasis on productivity, efficiency and minimizing rework. Develop the annual budget and annual operating plans. Ensure that thermal and electrical outputs are maintained at maximum levels and efficiencies. Implement systems for safety, environmental compliance Provide guidance to the maintenance supervisor relative to equipment conditions and required maintenance activities. Implement operational changes and root cause analysis for continuous improvement. Oversee the training and scheduling of powerhouse employees. Responsible for powerhouse operating budget. Work with our operations leadership group to develop, implement and refine strategic business plans. Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records. Sustain the morale and motivation of operations personnel and handle employee concerns as they arise. Assist with the location, screening and hiring of operating personnel. Develop and steward to conformed use of plant logs, standard operating procedures, Interim operating procedures, equipment round sheets, causality response procedures, emergency procedures and night orders. What you need to succeed: Prefer bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or commensurate experience. Minimum of seven (7) years of power plant experience to include five (5) years of operations/engineering experience and three (3) years of supervisory experience. Familiarity in working power plant maintenance in an O&M Services type contract environment is highly desirable. Thorough knowledge of engineering theory, precepts, and applications obtained through formal education, OJT, and specialized classes. Broad knowledge and experience in the design and operation of power plants and steam turbine technology. Detailed knowledge of regulatory requirements for plant operation and environmental monitoring. Effective management and leadership skills and working knowledge of organization, financial, and administrative principles obtained through specialized classes and OJT. Capability to coordinate third party contracted services. Effective communication and human resource skills. Thorough knowledge of budgeting and operations planning. Working knowledge of planning and scheduling processes, computerized maintenance management systems and related maintenance recordkeeping.
