A Guide to Duval County

With numerous neighborhoods that all have a unique feel, various attractions for all ages and a multitude of restaurants no matter what you’re in the mood for, Duval County is the complete package! When taking a deep dive into this county, it’s obvious why tourists become residents.

Lively Food Scene

Located near San Marco, bb’s restaurant and bar is constantly recognized as one of the best Northeast Florida restaurants. With the various dishes and drinks (especially their wine list!) to choose from, this restaurant is a crowd favorite.

FYJ Pro Tip: Make sure to save room for dessert when visiting! Their wide variety of sweet treats are delightfully delectable.   

What’s better than enjoying delicious seafood dishes right on the water? Dockside Seafood is known for their fresh local seafood and stunning views of the Jacksonville Beach boat ramp. From tacos to fish baskets, this restaurant has it all! 

If you’re looking for somewhere with a more laid-back atmosphere, Moon River Pizza in Murray Hill is the place to go. This restaurant has everything a pizza lover could think of! With their unique toppings, such as breaded eggplant and tempeh, Moon River Pizza has all the offerings to become your new favorite pizzeria.

Family-Friendly Attractions

Attention all animal enthusiasts! Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has over 100 acres of wildlife exhibits and beautiful gardens, making it a must-visit for all ages. This zoo is home to a multitude of animals, such as Komodo Dragons and Malayan Tigers, and has tons events throughout the year.

This historic theatre has been a Downtown Jacksonville staple since 1927. The Florida Theatre puts on and hosts various shows, musicals and performers throughout the year for all different types of audiences. Check out their events and tickets page for a list of their shows in 2025!

If you love to shop, the St. Johns Town Center is an ideal locale in Duval County. This outdoor mall has 1.1 million square feet of shopping options for their visitors to peruse. There are also ample restaurants throughout the shopping center and even a few attractions too, including an escape room!

Outdoor Sites

Located in Downtown Jacksonville, Friendship Fountain isn’t  just a great picture place, but also a hopping spot to have a good time with friends! There are multiple events each month thrown right around it that anyone can enjoy.

FYJ Pro Tip: First Fridays at the Fountain gives residents a chance to listen to some great music, enjoy tasty food and play lawn games with their neighbors. Keep an eye out for even more events happening around the fountain on Find Your JAX’s Instagram!

Every Saturday from 10am-3pm, Riverside has an arts market located right under the Fuller Warren Bridge. Not only does this event give residents a chance to meet other people in their community, but it also supports local JAX businesses and makers! From farm fresh veggies to stunning jewelry pieces, the arts market has something for everyone.

Big Talbot Island State Park is the perfect place to relax and take in the beautiful nature that Duval County has to offer. Whether you want to hike one of their trails, take a boat out in the water or just sit and relax on the beach, this park is a spot every local needs to visit.

Various Water Sources

Beach day, anyone? Duval County has a wide variety of beaches to choose from that all have their own unique feel due to the restaurants, attractions and amenities that surround them. Make sure to pick up any last-minute supplies needed for a day in the sun at East Coast Sport Rentals!

If a day on a boat is calling your name, make sure to check out McCoy Waterways. Spend an exciting day on the water with friends and family and take one of their speed boat ride tours around popular JAX landmarks.

There’s no better way to take in the gorgeous views of Downtown Jacksonville than by the St. Johns River Taxi. This taxi can also be rented out for a private charter and will make any special event one to remember!
