Explore Virtual JAX

For most of us, we’re practicing safe social distancing at home as we adjust to this time of uncertainty. While it may be hard to explore the JAX region and enjoy all it has to offer during this time, our residents, businesses and the cultural community are adapting to offer great experiences without leaving the couch. Combat your cabin fever from setting in and explore JAX with virtual experiences. Here are some of our favorites:

City of Murals – Palatka

Our region is home to many beautiful and captivating murals. None, however, hold more history and stories than the “City of Murals” in Palatka. This stretch of larger-than-life murals features more than 30 artistic renderings that depict the historical, cultural and natural riches found in this community. Listen to the audio features for insider information.

#JAXfromHome – Jacksonville

Traveling right now doesn’t mean you have to get in your car and drive. Instead, Visit Jacksonville offers Jacksonville experiences with their virtual experience hub. Experiences include cooking classes with local chefs, 360° views of surfing in Jacksonville Beach, cruising the St. Johns River by water taxi or hiking through Timucuan Historical and Ecological Preserve.

Jacksonville Symphony – Downtown Jacksonville

One of the nation’s top regional orchestras, the Jacksonville Symphony, broadcasts their live symphonic music every Friday night at 8 p.m. A Jacksonville Symphony quartet will perform from Jacoby Symphony Hall to bring a unique digital production of music and commentary from the musicians. Enjoy through the Symphony’s channels or visit their website to watch live and past performances.

Virtual Night Feedings at Catty Shack Ranch – Northside and Oceanway

Get down with the big cats of Catty Shack Ranch as they offer their popular night feeding tours online. The team at the wildlife sanctuary serves up nearly 600 pounds of meat to their hungry lions and tigers. You can watch live on their Facebook page Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m.

St. Johns County Parks and Recreation

While parks are closed to the public, the St. Johns County parks and recreation team will bring the great outdoors to you. Every Tuesday at 10 a.m., park naturalist Kelly and fan favorite Auggie, the gopher tortoise, go live on the county’s Facebook page to share updates and ideas and answer any questions from inquisitive minds.

#MusuemFromHome – Riverside and Avondale

Just because we’re social distancing doesn’t mean creativity has to suffer. In fact, now is the best time to let those juices flow! To help your imagination and ingenuity flourish, museums across the nation, including local establishments, are bringing cultural and educational experiences straight to our homes through the hashtag #MuseumFromHome. One such museum, Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is offering its new “Art Making at Home” guide which provides instructions to create museum-inspired art projects that will spark an idea to create your own at home.

The Museum of Contemporary Arts (MOCA) has also moved online with MOCA JAX smART Online, a virtual museum experience providing access to the museum’s exhibits, interviews with artists and classes in support of the programs.
