  • Asian American Advisory Board: The Mayor’s Asian American Advisory Board consists of 15 members appointed by the Mayor to recognize the concerns and desires of the Asian community in Jacksonville. The Board provides information, guidance and comprehensive studies relating to the city’s citizens of Asian descent.
  • Asian American & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund: This organization, based in Washington, D.C., is the nation’s largest non-profit devoted to providing college scholarships for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
  • The Asian Society of Innovation and Achievement (Johnson & Johnson): This group fosters innovation and professional growth within the Asian American community, supporting members in their careers and community involvement. Established by J&J employees, this group works to promote a culture of inclusion and to elevate AAPI voices and talent worldwide.

Notable Leaders:

The Asian American community in Jacksonville is represented by several notable leaders who have made significant contributions to the city:

  • Dr. Mei Zhao: A prominent figure in the academic and healthcare sectors, Dr. Zhao is known for her contributions to education and community health. She has received countless awards for her efforts in the community such as the City of Jacksonville Mayor’s Asian American Association Board Outstanding Community Service Award in May of 2015.

  • Kie Young: A Japanese native and advocate for global wellness, Kie Youngg is a substitute teacher and freelance translator specializing in education & health fields. Young also serves as the President of the Japanese Association of Jacksonville and a board member of Night of Asia.

  • Mai Dinh Keisling: An educator with a compelling personal story, Mai Dinh Keisling was born in Vietnam and is now a current resident of Duval County. She has made significant contributions to education in Jacksonville, such as being part of the Teacher Leader Roundtable Task Force to explore issues in public education – in 2016, she founded a coalition to address their issues, such as harassment and fear of deportation.
